The Edge of Brass

Today's blog entry is brought to you by the Mnozil Brass (and the number 7-as in the members of Mnozil).

I was scrolling through Facebook, Friday evening. The week is over, I want the instant gratification of the News Feed. I come across a Mnozil Brass video that I am not familiar with and I click on it. Thanks to the power of the internet, I am instantly delivered my video selection. That video is linked below

So, after watching that video I was totally dismayed. I looked hopelessly on Google and Youtube, and after a while began to ponder the message of the video. It is so easy with the power of technology to forget to be patrons of the arts. That being said, it's easy to support artists like the Mnozil Brass.

During my search for "Isn't She Lovely," I came across this video:

With this movie having been part of the curriculum for the film class I was in last semester, I was pleased to here such a great rendition from Mnozil. I did get to see them live once during my undergrad, but I am definitely going to make a point of seeing them the next time they pass through town. I think some of the colors utilized (keeping in mind it is an unmixed, live recording) may be more aggressive than would pass in a symphony, but in the context of a brass ensemble and the content of the music that they are playing, I feel that their rendition may be even more effective than the original. So where's the Misty Gorilla? I'd say today's Gorilla is more edgy than misty.

Super Misty! Look at the unbelievable skill this guy has (you'll see). Although, one wonders what happened during the cut in the middle. I only hope he got to drink one of them and that no beers were hurt in the process.
